The scholarship is awarded to an upper level student from northwest Louisiana pursuing a degree in mass communications. Martzell is a junior in the Louisiana Scholars’ College at Northwestern State University majoring in liberal arts with a concentration in fine and performing arts focusing on journalism.
Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at 2.5 and at least 3.0 in their major.
They must also submit a 250-word essay on “Why I want to pursue a career in journalism.”
The Shreveport Journalism Foundation was chartered as a nonprofit corporation in 1984 and is dedicated to promoting excellence in journalism through scholarships and professional development.
