The ITA ranks the top-75 teams in the nation each week, determined by the team’s performance the weeks prior.
“After a great match on Sunday, we’re excited about this ranking,” said head coach Patric DuBois. “I’m very proud of the team and the way they have been playing the past couple of weeks, and hopefully that will carry on into the rest of the season.”
Sitting ahead of any other Southland Conference institution, and just seven positions behind LSU, the Lady Demons receive their first ranking since the 2010 season when NSU held the No. 64 and No. 72 slots for the weeks of Mar. 9 and Mar. 16, respectively. Tulane holds the next-highest position in the State at No. 56.
The Lady Demons (1-0) defeated the Mustangs (1-1) in a 4-3 battle on Sunday in Dallas. After securing the doubles point, Polina Konop, Kateryna Paitakova and Aliona Ladutska claimed their slots in singles play to notch the first victory of the season.
Northwestern State hits the road this weekend with matches at Southern Mississippi on Saturday and Alabama-Birmingham on Sunday, both slated to begin at 11:00.
