State of Purple games moved up due to cold weather

Northwestern State’s high-anticipated softball and baseball games against visiting LSU on Tuesday have been moved up to start at 1 o’clock and 3:30 from their original times of 3 and 7 o’clock because of wintery weather.

The Lady Demon softball team will open the afternoon against the Lady Tigers at 1 o’clock and the Demons will host the No. 4 Tigers at 3:30. There were no mutually available days for both schools to reschedule.

“With the possibility of cold weather and rain after dark, we decided it was best to move the game up to help protect the players,” said second-year head coach Lane Burroughs.

“It’s also better for the fans. It looks like it will be around 40 degrees during the day as opposed to the 20s that night,” he said. “We just want to better the experience for everyone involved.”

No refunds will be given for tickets, but fans who have purchased tickets will be sent a voucher for a baseball or softball game later this season. The “State of Purple” day will still feature a fan tailgate from 2:00-3:30 with food, music and games.

General admission tickets are available for both the 1:00 softball game at the Lady Demon Diamond and the 3:30 baseball contest at Brown-Stroud Field, along with admission to the Fat Tuesday Tailgating Party at the Collins Family Pavilion.

A "State of Purple" package for $25 provides admission to both games and the tailgating party. For more ticket options, and advance purchases to avoid lines at the gate on game day, call 357-4268.
