Eagan had a sensational 20-yard touchdown catch, leaping in the corner of the end zone and snagging a perfectly thrown Zach Adkins throw, to cap the Demons’ two-hour scrimmage Saturday in Turpin Stadium. NSU went through a light workout Sunday and opens the season Aug. 28, at home against Missouri State.
Eagan was first ranked by the CFPA among the top 40 kick returners in FCS, and then the top 34 punt returners, late last month.
Eagan, a New Orleans-Holy Cross product, was picked by league coaches for the Preseason Southland Conference Team as a return specialist.
He is a starting receiver for the Demons and made 46 catches, tops on the team and the fifth-best single-season total in school history, last year. His 585 yards receiving was second on last year's team behind 2013 senior Louis Hollier.
In two years, he owns a 9.0 punt return career average with a 50-yard touchdown last year against Langston.
He has a career 23.5 average on kickoff returns, including an 82-yard TD as a freshman against Sam Houston State. He set single-season school records with 34 kickoff returns and 798 yards last fall. With 1,080 career kick return yards, he is just over halfway with two seasons remaining to topping the school record of 2,084 yards by Phillip Harvey from 2009-12.
Earlier this summer, Adkins and senior cornerback Imoan Claiborne were listed on the CFPA Watch List for their positions.
