The Northwestern State softball program received a $5,000 donation from Bank of Montgomery, seventh-year head coach Donald Pickett announced Wednesday.

“We’re real excited about Bank of Montgomery’s donation,” Pickett said. “Ken Hale and Carrie Beth Hough have been really involved with the university and community. They really help a lot of young people out as well as our program.”

Pickett credits Hale, the bank’s president and CEO and Hough, marketing director and assistant vice president, among others with helping provide the Northwestern State softball players a quality experience.

In January 2013, Bank of Montgomery presented a $40,000 contribution to Northwestern State athletic director Greg Burke to assist in the renovation of Lady Demon Diamond.

The $466,000 project included chair-back seating in a new partially-covered grandstand, a new press box and a new concession stand.

Pickett’s program in still in the process of deciding how to use the $5,000 donation but said that the money could be allocated to many different areas.

“Donations like this help our program in several ways,” Pickett said. “It helps us with buying equipment we need to make them better softball players. It can also help us do some things on trips that we may not be able to do without it.”

The Lady Demons have made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances after winning a combined 75 games and dual Southland Conference Tournament championships over the past two seasons.
