The American Cancer Society will host an Announcement Party at Maglieaux’s on the Cane in Natchitoches Aug. 10 to kick off the 10th Annual Belles and Beaus Gala from 6-8 p.m. Northwestern State University Athletics Game Announcer Hunter Horton will host the event. The Belles and Beaus of the Gala will be honored for contributions in the fight against cancer and their representation for survivors, volunteers and community members. Lakeview High School’ s Class of 2007 will host a 10-Year Reunion Oct. 13-14 at the high school. They invite all alumni, family and friends to attend. Class dues for the reunion will be $25 and an optional purchase of a reunion shirt will be $20. The reunion will kick off with a tailgate before the game Friday at 5 p.m. The game will start at 7 p.m. The class will have dinner at Trailboss Steakhouse in Natchitoches at 7 p.m. on Oct. 14. The dinner invitation is exclusive to adults only. The class will present the school with a framed Fight Song and will recognize a student athlete with certificates and goods. A lantern release will take place in honor of two late members of the class, Josh Potts and Anthony Demery. During July and August, the class is hosting a school supply drive for Lakeview High with drop-off locations at Bank of Montgomery in Natchitoches and City Bank in Campti. The items requested include loose leaf paper, pens, pencils, tissues, hand sanitizer, dry erase markers, folders, notebooks, highlighters and other supplies.
The 18th Cane River Zydeco Festival and Poker Run will be Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 1-2, at Natchitoches Fairgrounds. Friday, poker run registration is at 6 p.m. and the Zydeco Dance Contest is at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, poker run registration is at 9 a.m., ride begins at 11:30 p.m., gates open at 1 p.m., along with zydeco dance lessons by Naomi Bush, Jeremy Fruge and Zydeco Hot Boys will perform from 4-6 p.m., Hardrick Rivers and Rivers Revue will perform from 6:30-8 p.m. and Marcus Ardoin and Da Zydeco Legends will perform from 9-11:30 p.m. Admission on Friday is free, on Saturday it is $8. Cane River Paddle and Pedal Sports hosts PaddleFit Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. at their rental location by the Church Street Bridge on the riverbank on Williams Ave. Fees are $20 a class or $50 a month.
