NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity will present the third annual Game Ball Run to raise for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Members of the fraternity will physically run the game ball 80 miles from Natchitoches to Ruston for the Demons’ faceoff against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Sept. 2. More then 50 runners from the chapter will take turns running the ball, as well as a few special guests.
The run will begin with a send-off at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 at the south entrance of Turpin Stadium with runners escorted by NSU Police. Once the ball reaches the Louisiana Tech campus, it will be handed over to Athletics officials prior to the 6 p.m. kick-off.
“Our first year in which we ran the game ball to Tech, we had no idea what to expect and received an overwhelming amount of support from the community for our efforts to raise money for St. Jude,” said Hunter Horton, chapter president. “We then decided to run to UL-Lafayette our second year and raised our goal to $5,000. The weather did not cooperate the second year, but in keeping with our commitment, we ran the full 142 miles in laps around the NSU track and met our goal. This year we have raised our goal to $10,000 and are still looking forward to the continued support for our cause from the community.”
