Registrar of Voters Debbie Waskom has released dates related to the Oct. 14 primary election.
There will be a State election for treasurer. The candidates include “Ron” Ceasar, I-Opelousas; Angele Davis, R-Baton Rouge; Derrick Edwards, D-Harvey; Terry Hughes, R-Lafayette; Joseph D. Little, L-Ponchatoula; Neil Riser, R-Columbia; and John Schroder, R-Baton Rouge.
There will be two local tax elections. The first is a 7.02 mill tax for Fire Protection District 1.
The second is an $18.6 million bond issue for the Natchitoches Parish School Board for maintenance and repairs for City schools.
The last day to register to vote in person and by mail is Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 4:30 p.m. The last day to register to vote online is Sept. 23 at 11:59 p.m.
Early voting will be Saturday, Sept. 30 and Monday, Oct. 2 through Saturday, Oct. 7. The Registrar of Voters office will be open from 8:30 am. until 6 p.m. on those days.
Early voting is for voters who will be out of the parish on election day and week of early voting; or if a person is over 65; or if a person has a mobility impaired ID card. Fax requests to (318)357-2212 or mail to Registrar of Voters, POB 677, Natchitoches LA 71458.
The last day to make a written request for an absentee ballot by mail is Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Written request forms can be downloaded at www.sos.la.gov under “Elections” Click on the “Vote” link, click on “Vote by Mail” and click on “Application to Vote by Mail.”
Requests must include Voter’s name, Natchitoches Parish address, date of birth, Social Security number or driver’s license number, reason ballot is requested, election date of Oct. 14, 2017, mailing address and voter’s signature.
Ballots must be returned to returned to Registrar’s office before noon on Election day.
