The annual St. Mary’s Steak Supper, hosted by SMH athletics, raised funds for the athletic programs. Family and friends who bought steaks and tickets were entertained by an intersquad scrimmage of the elementary 5-6 graders, 3-4 graders, junior high and finally the high school varsity faced Darbonne Woods Charter for their first scrimmage of the fall season. The game had Tiger fans ready for the season after the 42-6 victory.

The Tigers vs. Timber Wolves game got off to a quick start when the Tigers sacked Darbonne’s quarterback in the first play of the game. The remaining game continued the fighting tempo with strong plays on Tiger’s offense and defensive sides of the ball.

Senior Aaron Howell, starting quarterback, played half the game and assisted in putting 35 points on the board. Parker Bankston scored a touchdown with a leaping catch, Jay Parker was knocked into the endzone on a tackle, Jordan White ran in a TD, Parker caught the pigskin in the endzone and Slade Bienvenu ran 30 yards for their fifth TD of the game. When second-string QB Andrew Godfrey came into the game he assisted in collecting one more- a strong pass to White in the endzone. Bankston was the kicker for St. Mary’s hitting all 6 extra pointers.

In the three quarters that were played, the Tigers kept the Timber Wolves on their end of the field with few attempts making past their 30. It wasn’t until the final minutes of the game that Darbonne made a big play. A 30-yard TD run against the Tigers’ second-string defense put them on the board. The Tigers will play again Friday night at 6 p.m. against Bolton for a jamboree scrimmage at home.
