Train blocks crossing for over two hours

An 8,000 foot Union Pacific train blocked the crossing on the north Natchitoches By-pass for approximately two-three hours Monday. Union Pacific representative Jeff DeGraff said the issue was due to a crew change.

“The crew on board expired their hours of service and were waiting on their relief crew.”

The relief crew was delayed by inclement weather. DeGraff said the crew aboard the train believed they had cleared the crossing and was unaware of the issue.

“Union Pacific apologizes for any inconvenience. We always try to minimize delays at crossings,” DeGraff said.

The crossing was cleared as soon as the relief crew arrived shortly after 3 p.m.
