Citizen Helps NPD Stop Dangerous Vehicle

On August 30, 2017 at approximately 1:50 p.m. Natchitoches Police Department Officers responded to a hit and run in the 300 block of Keyser Avenue. A second hit and run was reported in the 300 block of South Drive. A short time later an agent with the Multi Jurisdictional Drug task Force advised a vehicle went around the barricades on Fairgrounds Road.

After the license plate was verified it was determined that this vehicle was involved in both hit and run accidents. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at Fairgrounds Road and highway 1 Bypass. The vehicle refused to stop and fled from officers at a high rate of speed on highway 1 bypass.

Additional officers joined the pursuit and attempt to stop the vehicle from endangering the lives of others traveling in the area. With the help of a private citizen, officers were able to box the vehicle in and bring the pursuit to a stop near Westside Baptist Church.

The driver was identified as Ashly Descant, 34, white female of Evergreen Louisiana.
Ashly Descant was charged with 2 counts of Hit and Run, Driving while intoxicated 2nd offense, obedience to police officers, speeding, and disobeying stop sign. Descant was placed in The Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
