Natchitoches Parish School Board members unanimously voted to appoint Katrina Wilson Willis as interim District 5 representative. The seat was vacated by the sudden death of her mother, the late Joella Wilson Collins.

“It is an honor,” she said after accepting the appointment Thursday, Aug. 31. “It is also heartbreaking. I want to let you all know I will try to represent her, and you all, as best as I can. I thank you.”

Emile Metoyer made the nomination seconded by Steven Harris.

Two applied for the position by submitting letters of intent.

Willis, a Natchitoches native, is the mother of five adult children and owns her own make-up boutique, Dolled Up. Several members of her family, including her grandmother, were in the audience to show their support.

Willis will retain the seat until the special called election March 24, 2018.
