NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University is joining sister schools in the University of Louisiana System by hosting fundraising drives during this week’s football matchups. The UL System Student Advisory Council is organizing the initiative. Funds raised will be placed in the UL System Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and distributed to impacted students in the Houston area.
UL System Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund donation centers will be set up at Joe Aillet Stadium before Northwestern State plays Louisiana Tech in Ruston Saturday. Other sites are John L. Guidry stadium in Thibodaux Thursday for the McNeese State matchup against Nicholls and Saturday at Cajun Field in Lafayette before Southeastern takes on UL-Lafayette.
“A disaster of this scale can completely change the trajectory of a college student. I am proud of our students for taking the initiative to give back to a state that has supported Louisiana in our darkest times,” UL System President and CEO Jim Henderson said. “I encourage our students, alumni and fans attending the games this weekend to give to this worthy cause which will have a lasting impact on students’ lives.”
The nine University of Louisiana System schools are also responding with opportunities for students to volunteer in the impacted areas as well as hosting a system-wide supply drive. To give to the fund outside of this weekends’ match ups, contact the University of Louisiana System at (225) 342-6950.
