Acts of Kindness should never be taken for granted. The taste and smell of fresh baked cookies has to be one of the best things the children of the Bailey Heights neighborhood enjoyed this summer during Traveling Tales and Lunch with Lions. Natchitoches Regional Medical Center provided freshly baked cookies each week for the sack lunches and the children said that they “loved their cookies.”
Johnny Barnes spent hours going door to door, handing out flyers, setting up tables and chairs each week and making phone calls to encourage the children in the neighborhood to participate in the program. He stressed the importance of reading to them each week and by the end of the summer, most of the youth had their own library cards and were checking out books weekly. Barnes recognized the Natchitoches Library, Lions Club, Community Volunteers many others for participating in the reading program.
