Dooky Chase

It was a reunion of sorts for Terrian and Oshonta Marchand and Edgar Dooky Chase III. The Marchands lived in New Orleans across the street from Dooky Chase’s restaurant and frequently ate there. Edgar Chase is the son of Chef Leah Chase who was a speaker at Northwestern State Tuesday. Terrian assisted Chef Chase on stage and her mother was in the audience. Terrian is a recent graduate of the NSU Dept. of Hospitality Management and Tourism. Chef Chase proclaimed the advantages of receiving an education in Louisiana and praised Northwestern for its Dept. of Hospitality Management and Tourism. Times Photo

Frasier Snowden watches as Chef Leah Chase autographs a copy of her cookbook. Chase took several minutes to write personal notes on the cookbooks before her lecture Tuesday at NSU. She spoke of her experiences as a chef in New Orleans who has cooked for two American presidents and countless celebrities and dignitaries around the world. She told of President George W. Bush taking her to Commander’s Palace for dinner. He asked her if she would cook breakfast for him. She agreed and he showed up the next morning with the president of Mexico and prime minister of Canada.  Times photo
