Monday, Sept. 25

Tamara and Danny Jones came for a visit Friday. Her dog, Sadie, died and she brought it here to bury beside her other two dogs she lost several years ago. It’s a good thing it was a small dog because the ground was as hard as granite. It took them about two hours to dig a 20 x 8 hole. Sadie was 12 years old.

Tamara has been going to Lake Charles to a chiropractor she used when she lived there. He is treating her for whiplash. She is taking laser treatments on her face for palsy. I didn’t know what caused that but it sometimes takes a while to go away. My nephew, Charles Jones, had that once and it lingered quite awhile with him. Tamara brought me a strawberry shortcake from Albertson’s in Lake Charles. She knows I like sweets.

It was a very delicious cake. Jimmy Rachal had his birthday Friday with family and friends who had a big barbecue cookout. Among those there were Karen and Robert Apponey, Robert Antee, Chad McGee and his wife and two children, Paul Colston, Kelly and Lori Savell and Kyle Rachal. Monday, Oct. 2 Bro. Roger and Connie Matkin celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary by going out to eat Friday evening and then on Saturday evening, watching their daughter, Brittany Grace, compete in the hometown barrel racing event at the Natchitoches Parish Fair Rodeo.

They were happy to see her place second in this event.   Sunday evening at church, they were surprised with cake and coffee, cards and gifts. Then they were surprised when their son, Brad, and grandchildren, Raegan and Kenna Leigh and Connie’s brother, Lee, came in. Lee brought his guitar and helped the church family sing happy anniversary to them.  He also sang other songs including one of Connie’s favorites, “I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You,” which she said fit the occasion perfectly.

She and Bro. Roger especially wants to thank Margaret Masters who headed up this special event, and who, along with all those attending, showed their love and support towards them. Ladies Night at Bellwood Baptist Church is today, Thursday, at 5:30 p.m.  The cost is $10.  You can pay at the door. Trinity Baptist Church is hosting Ladies Night Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 5:30 p.m. Their theme is “Godly Lady.” The cost is $10. Harmony Baptist Church will have a fifth Sunday dining Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.  Anyone who would like to join in on this new event is welcome to come. Those celebrating birthdays in October are Mary Masters Oct. 3, Gerald Cook Oct. 7, D.A. Stanley Oct. 9, Connie Matkin Oct. 12 and Lauren Cheatwood Oct. 19.  Also, Roy and Diane Massey are celebrating their wedding anniversary Oct. 11.
