It must be fall now but the weather sure doesn’t feel like it. We need some rain. Jeannie Dennis and Ruby Hatcher went to Denham Springs to see Jeannie’s grandson, Grayson Dale Coleman, who was born Sept. 5, 2017, at 8:57 p.m. He is the son of Bruce and Alexis Coleman. This is Ruby’s first trip to see her grandson. Congratulations to all who are so happy for their new son, grandson and great grandson.

The men’s prayer breakfast will be hosted by Trinity Baptist Oct. 5 at 8 a.m. This is a monthly meeting for all who want to attend. It’s so good to see the advertisements about Northwestern State. The students are back and the fall semester is underway. Church groups or Sunday school classes can help Bill and Phyllis Collins and their ministry to students at NSU by providing snacks on Wednesday evenings. Contact Bill or Phyllis at 357-6464 to schedule a night this fall to bless the students at the BCM. Operation Christmas Child is in full swing as we gear up to pack shoeboxes for children around the world. There will be drop off spots at Calvary in Many, Martin and Westside. National Collection Week of Nov. 13-20. Briarwood Baptist Church began packing shoeboxes Oct. 2. I’ve noticed lots of homes are decorating for Halloween.

There are so many ways to decorate using pumpkins, scarecrows and even hay bales. You can also get lights to decorate with. Having birthdays are Layken Babers Oct. 1, Ginger Weaver Oct. 7, Joseph Hawkins Oct. 8, Liz Morgan Oct. 10, Linda Babers Oct. 12, Ruby Hatcher Oct. 17, twins Kevin Babers and Kelli Babers Oct. 19, Trey Etheridge Oct. 20, his daughter, Chloe Etheridge, Oct. 22, Ralph Mason Oct. 24 and Rita Fenn Oct. 28. Briarwood had its first fellowship with a fish fry at the church Sunday. There was a benefit for Bobby and Maxine Lum at Ashland Baptist Church Sept. 30. There was a fish fry and other activities during the day. Those in need of prayer are Jan Spier, Margie Dobson, Glennie Taylor, Jackie Speir, Jeannie Dennis, Shane Hawkins, Ross England, Ralph Mason, Rub Hatcher, Linda Babers, Kelly Guilliams and Cheryl Wise. The Readhimer class reunion will be Oct. 14 at the pavilion in Readhimer. Take your favorite covered dish and talk about your time at the school.

They usually meet around 10 a.m. and have lunch at noon. There was supposed to be a collection for Mexico in November but I’m sure with the earthquake, they need more help now. They are also collecting dried pinto beans, rice, canned vegetables and fruit for the feeding program.
