Hunting season is in full swing in Kisatchie. With that in mind, here’s a few reminders to make sure we all enjoy this hunting season. Caney, Corney and Middlefork tracts of Kisatchie National Forest have the same regulation as Area 2 (except still hunting only for deer). Area 2 consists of Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine, and other North Louisiana parishes.
Contact the U.S. Forest Service for regulations if you plan to hunt any other part of Kisatchie. Deer hunting for Area 2 includes: Archery from Oct. 1 to Jan. 31; Primitive Firearms Oct. 21-27 and Jan. 15-21, Firearms (still-hunt only) Oct. 28-Dec. 5. Shooting hours are one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. Hunters can consult Wildlife Management Area and Federal Land for regulations and dates in areas.
Possession limit is six per season, not to exceed three antlered or four antlerless per season. A basic resident or non-resident hunting license is required of all persons to hunt wildlife. Hunters born on or after Sept. 1, 1969 must also complete a hunter education course approved by LDWF. Be careful out there and good luck to all of our local hunters. If you live, work, or explore in Kisatchie, make sure to contact me so I can showcase your adventures.
