Natchitoches Treasures, Dr. Ron McBride, L.J. Melder Sr., Lusetta Rogers Anthony, Virginia Webb and Wayne McCullen were recognized in a ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Events Center.  The Treasures are an elite group of Natchitoches residents of retirement age who have made a lasting contribution to the community through their generosity, service, volunteerism and spirit.

Each year since 2008, nominations are received from the community and winners are chosen by a committee of former Treasures.  Webb addressed the crowd saying, “I have come to the conclusion that one reason I am standing up here is because of the small things that make a difference.”

The recognition ceremony highlighted the contributions made to the City of Natchitoches and the community by each newly elected Treasure and paid tribute to former Natchitoches Treasures. McCullen said the program began during his tenure as mayor. “We had so many treasures, people who have given a lifetime of service and I felt like that was the strength of Natchitoches, it’s people.”
