Cane River Creole National Historical Park will join the Cane River National Heritage Area to celebrate an old fashioned Cane River Christmas. Christmas Downriver will take place Saturday, Dec. 9 from 1-3 p.m. at Magnolia Plantation. Children can make homemade ornaments similar to those made by children of Christmas’s past. There will be historic games, story time and singing of holiday songs and carols. A ranger will give a for a tour of the grounds at 2:30 p.m.
“Christmas Downriver is a program we enjoy every year,” said Barbara Justice, Chief of Interpretation. “Celebrating the holiday season with traditional crafts, games, music, and stories allows visitors and staff the unique opportunity to experience and share the Christmas traditions of the many people who once called Magnolia Plantation home.”
There is no entrance fee at Magnolia Plantation, located at 5549 Highway 119 in Cloutierville. For more information, call (318) 352-0383 ext. 200 or visit the park Facebook page, www.facebook.com/canerivercreoleNPS.
