The L.P. Vaughn Elementary School choral music classes in third-fifth grades will present “Dear Santa: A Musical Tweet for Christmas” Thursday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. The musical, under the direction of music teacher Danny R. Von Kanel, will include drama, lighting, choreography, singing, and staging. Email? Text? Post? Tweet? Skype?
In this musical, Christmas is almost here and the entire family is frantic about getting their lists to Santa in time. Exhausted super Mom is ready for an island vacation, choked-up Dad doesn’t need any more ridiculous ties, big brother Axel is on the move and needs some wheels, little brother Joey wants a puppy and Grandma and Grandpa want to try out their new matching sweat suits with one of those fancy dance revolution machines.
But little sister Molly’s handwritten letter reminds everyone of the true meaning of the season – sincerely! Grandma will be played by Barbara Clark and Grandpa by LaGordian Brown. Aaliyah Golston will play Mom with King Fisher as Dad. The youngest sister, Molly, will be played by Mariah Silvie and Linda, the oldest sister, by Kaitlyn Dorsey. Jaquerius Dorsey plays the older brother Axel and the younger brother Joey is played by Ryan Shields. Santa Claus will come to life as student Joshua Nash plays the jolly old soul. Mrs. Claus will join Santa as Alayla Bradford plays the part.
Other students will play puppies and dress as toy soldiers, snowmen and elves. This is the seventh musical in seven years performed by L.P. Vaughn students that has led to the L.P. Vaughn School of Fine Arts, now in its fourth year. Two other performances at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. are reserved for students only.
