A single vehicle crash killed a teenager from Atlanta and seriously injured her passenger. Troopers responded to the crash around 9:10 p.m. on US Hwy 71 north of Campti near the Fairview Alpha Elementary School. The crash involved a 1999 GMC pickup driven by Kristyn Hoffpauir, w/f, 15. The GMC was northbound on Hwy 71 when Hoffpauir lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a road sign and then a concrete retaining wall located on a creek bank. The vehicle came to rest upright in the creek. Hoffpauir was pronounced dead at the scene. Her only passenger, her mother, Kandace Buswell Hoffpauir, w/f, 37, of Atlanta received serious injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment. Both occupants were wearing their seat belt. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 41 fatal crashes in 2017, resulting in 49 fatalities.
