Cellist Molly Goforth to perform Jan. 26

Cellist Molly Goforth will perform a guest recital at Northwestern State University Friday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Goforth will be assisted by Dr. Greg Handel on piano.

The program will include music by Bach, Caldera, Janacek and Ligeti.

Goforth is a performer and teacher from Lafayette. She is an active chamber and orchestral musician, performing more than 50 events each year. She is principal cellist of the Baton Rouge Symphony and a frequent performer of chamber music with the Baton Rouge-based group Magnolia Strings. Goforth performs with the Acadiana Symphony and Lake Charles Symphony. She has worked as a recording artist with Grammy nominated artist Marc Broussard and Grammy nominated group Bonsoir Catin.

Goforth teaches high school string orchestra at Comeaux High School and is an adjunct cello professor at McNeese State and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She also has an active private studio. Her students are regularly accepted into the Louisiana All-State Orchestra, the LPSS Gifted and Talented program, Acadiana Symphony Youth Orchestra, UL-Lafayette orchestra and are employed by churches and other organizations as gigging musicians.

A graduate of the University of Louisville, Goforth received a master’s in cello performance from DePaul University.
