The Rho Beta Omega graduate chapter and Eta Chi undergraduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. hosted their annual Debutante Presentation Sunday, Dec. 17 at A.A. Fredericks at NSU. The theme was “A Rhapsody of Elegance and Grace.”
Thirteen young ladies competed for the title of “Miss Alpha Kappa Alpha Debutante.” These included Maiya Augustine, Shamari Benning, Ciara Blade, Adriana Bradley, Yasmine Bradley, LaZaria Clark, Keira Coleman, Akria Johnson, Rya Jones, Raven Nichols, Nikayla Rock, Savannah Walter and Kayla Watson.
Raven Nichols of Winnfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Nichols, was crowned Miss Alpha Kappa Alpha Debutante 2017 and Miss Congeniality. She is a senior at Winnfield Senior High School.
The Debutante Ball allows the sorority to implement programs of service. The international programs addressed by the local chapters of AKA include five target areas: educational enrichment, health promotion, family strengthening, environmental ownership and global impact.
