Two Northwestern State University students, Brianna Ashley of Deville and Rebekah Aultman of Mangham, have been awarded national scholarships from the Order of Omega.
The scholarship was based on Ashley and Aultman’s leadership, academics and service to the campus and local community.
Ashley is a senior majoring in hospitality management and tourism with a concentration in travel and tourism and business administration. She is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, Order of Omega, Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
“I am so honored and proud to be a part of something as wonderful and empowering as Greek life,” said Ashley. “This opportunity has taught me the importance of community service, philanthropy, sisterhood and love and has continuously impacted my life in so many positive ways that I could not imagine my life without it. This Greek community constantly inspires me to hold confidence in myself, exceed expectations and provides immaculate support when I need it the most.”
Ashley said being a member of a Greek organization has made her “a much more confident, strong, independent woman than I was four years ago when entering Northwestern State.”
Aultman is a junior strategic communications major and is active in the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Sigma Sigma Sigma and Purple Jackets. She was a member of the 2017 Homecoming Honor Court. Aultman is a mentor in the Presidential Leadership Program and a member of Alpha Lambda Delta.
“Greek life has benefited me in so many ways, that it’s overwhelming to think about,” said Aultman. “Whenever I first came to college I was not even remotely interested in becoming Greek. I had a lot of my friends go Greek and I quickly realized that I wanted to be part of that too. Not to fit in, but to stand out. Greek life has taught me how to function in a community of people who come from all different backgrounds and how to work together for the common goal of bettering our community.”
The commitment to service has greatly impacted Aultman.
“It has taught me that service isn’t something you schedule every week to do, but rather a lifestyle to be lived,” said Aultman. “I’ve learned how to unashamedly be myself, but at the same time push myself to think out of the box and try new things. Greek life has changed my life, and for that I am thankful.”
The Order of Omega is a Greek honorary organization recognizing the top three percent of juniors and seniors in the fraternity and sorority community. The scholarship program was established to recognize academic achievements, participation and leadership in campus organizations, citizenship and service to Order of Omega and the campus community.
