The City continues its upgrade of utilities with the announcement Monday evening that St. Denis Street is on the schedule for a rehabilitation project. A resolution passed at the City Council meeting says bids are due March 20 for the project to replace the water and sewer lines and resurface St. Denis Street from Front to Third. Mayor Lee Posey said the work should begin in mid-May and be completed by mid-July. The street should remain open during construction. By resolution, the Council approved advertising for bids to build a pavilion at the Natchitoches Tennis Complex in East Natchitoches. It will have bathrooms and an overhang to shield visitors from the sun. Posey said he expects that a Junior Grand Prix tournament will be at the courts in September. Additions and changes to the Beauport project continue.

The Council approved a change order from Regional Construction for $24,690 taking the revised contract total to $336,245. Posey said the order adds pavers in front of the stage to expand the dance area, adds two catch basins and connects a walkway from the trolley station to the Roque House. The work will be done after the Jazz, Rhythm and Blues Festival in April. The council approved a change order for $261,000 by Merrell Bros. Inc., for additional dredging of Chaplin’s Lake.

The revised contract total will be $577,500. Other agenda items included:
