Lakeview 69        Mangham 58

The Lakeview Gators advance to the next round of the playoffs after defeating Mangham Friday night at the Swamp. The Gators Zarious Lewis led all scorers with 35 points, Demondre Young had 10 and Michael Banks added eight.

The Gators led the entire game only allowing Mangham to get within eight points during a stretch run of 10 unanswered points in the third quarter. Head coach Dewaskie Fuller called a timeout to reinsert his starters. Once the starting five resumed play they built a 15-point lead to close out the third period of play.

The fourth quarter started with Mangham’s Brandon Haynes hitting a reverse lay-up for two points, cutting the lead to 13.

At this point Lakeview was simply holding the ball to run out the clock. That’s when Mangham’s head coach Richard Dunn instructed his players to foul the Gators to get the ball back after the Gators attempted free throws. This strategy worked, but unfortunately for Mangham the Gators converted on their free-throw attempts to close out the game with a 69-58 victory.

Lakeview will travel to face Rapides Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
