Supt. of Schools Dale Skinner said Tuesday, March 13, that the original plan to band schools by grades for four City schools remains intact using the first proposal approved in February.
During a board meeting March 9, Skinner presented another proposal that he said was meant to be only for consideration by the board. “I didn’t do a very good job of communicating that…The first plan is the best without a doubt.”
Skinner said he decided to revert to the original proposal for two main reasons. First, he could not separate toddler, Pre-K and kindergarten classes as called for in the second proposal. Second, the school-based clinic operated by Natchitoches Outpatient Clinic could not move to another location.
Skinner is expected to give more details during a finance committee meeting today, Tuesday, at 5 p.m.
The original plan is:
•Toddler, Pre-K, K, first and second grades will be housed at L.P. Vaughn.
•Third and fourth grades will be at Weaver.
•Fifth and sixth grades will be at East Natchitoches.
•Seventh and eighth grades will be at Natchitoches Jr. High.
•Natchitoches Magnet School will remain at Parks Elementary.
The original plan was approved by the La. Dept. of Education.
