Demon Math Classic winners announced

NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s Department of Mathematics hosted the Demon Mathematics Class, a quiz-bowl style competition for high school students, March 16.  Ten teams from four high schools attended and top competitors from each team were selected by the NSU mathematics faculty as All Stars.

 

Students competed as teams and as individuals. In the individual competition, Sansar Gupta of Bolton High School finished in first place, Dylan Tynes of C.E. Byrd finished second and Abbas Khambatti of Bolton High School finished third.  Winners of the individual competition each received a trophy, a TI-Nspire CX CAS graphing calculator and a scholarship to NSU.

 

In the team competition, first place went to C.E. Byrd High School, second place went to Bolton High school and third place went to Pitkin High School.  Each school received a plaque to keep and C.E. Byrd received the traveling trophy for the year.
