Northwestern State University’s Demon Dazzlers competed in the American Dance/Drill Team National Championship in Denton, Texas, last weekend, placing second runner-up in the jazz category and fourth place in their division. The Demon Dazzlers are the official jazz line for NSU, performing at pep rallies, football and basketball games, blending different styles of precision movement to produce a unique style of precision jazz dance. During the fall, Demon Dazzlers served as an auxiliary unit of the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band and accompany them to marching festivals, guest appearances and football games both at home and selected away games. In the spring, they provide half-time entertainment for Demon basketball games and at various exhibitions throughout the state. The Dazzlers sponsor a dance camp every summer. The American Dance/Drill Team competition was the first time the team competed since 2013. The Dazzlers are, seated from left, Mallory Martinez, Madilyn Wood, Taylor Myers, Alexzandra Hattier and Elaina Guerrero. On the back row are Brandi Cockern, Ashley Henry, Emily Williams, Janee Charles and Alyson Brown. The Dazzlers are under the direction of Renee Oates, director, and Kimberly Gallow, assistant director. Auditions for the 2018-19 Dazzlers will be held Saturday, April 21.
