Two current students in the Louisiana Scholars’ College at Northwestern State University, Shelby Riedel of Broussard and Glendalyn Boothe of Clayton, from left, and former student Caleb Killer presented their research into anticancer proteasome inhibitors at the 255th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in New Orleans. The poster presentation was entitled: “Proteasome inhibition by selected cyclophane anticancer drugs – a computational chemistry analysis.” Professor of Chemistry Dr. Massimo Bezoari, co-author and director of the research, said that the work was very high level, similar to what is expected in graduate programs. “Computational chemistry continues to make rapid advances, and is at the forefront of current chemistry and biochemistry research,” he said. “Anticancer proteasome inhibitors are also a ‘hot area’ in current biomedical research. These students have demonstrated a significant level of excellence in undertaking such a challenging research project.” Riedel, Boothe and fellow LSC student Katie Wakefield of Ball will present updated research during NSU’s 31st annual Research Day, Thursday, April 12.
