Submitted by Coach Willie Paz St. Mary’s senior Sarah Gilmore is on her way to the tennis finals. She defeated the #2 seed, Christi Pham, from St. Fred’s and the #1 seed, Kaylee Ware, from Claiborne Christian. Seniors George Ingrish and Dylan Bennett had the most exciting match of their four year career at St. Mary’s.
During Regionals they defeated the team from Delta Charter to advance to the semi-finals. They were down 9-3 in the tie-breaker for the match and pulled a big win by 11-3 for the third set tie-breaker. St. Mary’s tennis standout Sarah Gilmore won the girls singles title for the second consecutive year. She defeated Kaylee Ware from Claiborne Christian 6-2, 6-3 in the finals at the Regional Tennis Tournament at the ULM tennis courts April 16-17. In boys doubles.
The team of George Ingrish and Dylan Bennett fell short and lost in the semi-finals to Evangel’s CJ Thames and Cameron Lenard 6-1, 6-1. St. Mary’s qualified five players to compete in the state tournament April 26-27 in Monroe. Sarah Gilmore, Emily Maggio and John Ingrish will compete in their division in singles and George Irish and Dylan Bennett will compete in doubles.
