Ready to “shop ‘til you drop”? The 10th Annual El Camino Real Sale on the Trail takes place May 4-5 along 175 miles of the historic El Camino Real de los Tejas. Follow the trail through the Caddo region, which stretches from La. Hwy 6 in Natchitoches to Texas Hwy 21 into Nacogdoches, Texas.
Along the trail, shoppers will find new and used items sold by local businesses and private individuals. If you are a shopping warrior, collector or just looking for fun, a weekend shopping the trail is a great opportunity to take advantage of the spring scenery and historical markers along the El Camino Real.
Registered participants in Natchitoches Parish include Tres Bien Antiques in historic downtown Natchitoches, Hillside Antiques in Robeline, Cub Scout Pack 20 will have multi-family rummage and bake sale, Westside Baptist Church will host a huge sale and other garage sales will take place along the Hwy 6 route Friday and Saturday. On Saturday only, Sharpco Hotels (Best Western/Holiday Inn Express/Comfort Suites and Days Inn) will be set up in the Natchitoches Conference Hall behind Best Western Hotel on University Parkway hotel items such as mirrors, guest furniture, televisions, blankets, bedding and all things hotel related.
Don’t forget the attractions along the El Camino Real including Los Adaes SHS, Caddo Adai Indian Nation Cultural Center, Fort St. Jean Baptiste SHS, Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History museum.
Designated as a National Historic Trail in 2004, El Camino Real de los Tejas has existed for more than 300 years. The Spaniards and the French who marked the trail were followed by such men as Stephen F. Austin, Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, Sam Houston and early missionaries of multiple faiths.
