Lakeview High School celebrated its end of the year sports banquet May 8, honoring athletes and cheerleaders who participated while excelling in their chosen sport or sports. Many of the Gator athletes excelled in several sports ranging from football, basketball, baseball, softball and track and field. Principal William Hymes started the banquet by thanking parents for their support of the student-athletes.
He then thanked all the student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom as well as in their chosen sports. After all of the introductions, Hymes started the ceremony by awarding the Most Outstanding Gator award to Zarious Lewis. Lewis also garnered the MVP award for district 3-2A, 1st Team All-District as well as All-Area MVP for the 2017-18 season.
Coach Brandon Helms announced the football award winners. First up was Marcus Sowell who win the Outstanding Performance in the sport of Football, Outstanding Defense Award, 1st Team All-District and third year Letterman.
Coach Daniel Gannon introduced the award winners for baseball. Tyler Sullivan won Outstanding Performance in the sport of Baseball and 1st Team All-District 3-2A. Terry Rowell received All-District honors and Layton Friday received All-District as well as Academic All-District honors.
Coach Akilah Issac presented the girls’ basketball awards highlighted by her two seniors, Shunderika Browder and Savannah Walters. Browder was named to the 3-2A 1st Team All-District, 1st Team All-Area and the Lady Gators MVP. Walters was named to the 3-2A All-District Team as well as the All-Area Team.
Lakeview’s first bass fishing team, Dillon Longino and Joseph Gallien, competed well to earn All-District honors.
