The British Brass Band Association of Louisiana will present a concert at Northwestern State University Sunday, June 10 at 4:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
The British Brass Band Association of Louisiana brings together many of the ArkLaTex’s finest musicians to perform exciting and challenging brass band repertoire. Band members come from across the region to participate in semi-annual concerts in Shreveport, Bossier City, Ruston, Marshall, Natchitoches, Lake Charles and Baton Rouge.
The program features traditional brass band works as well as transcriptions of themes from popular movies such as “E.T.,” “Superman” and “The Incredibles.”
The band is led by conductor John Caputo, a 16-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force Bands Program with a reputation for excellence as both a performer and an educator. Caputo was the solo euphonium for the Georgia Brass Band from 2003-2010, and played a critical role in their appearances at the North American Brass Band Association Championships. He has become an active teacher and clinician throughout South Central Texas, and he is the music director for the Austin Brass Band and the solo euphonium for the San Antonio Brass Band.
Six Northwestern State faculty and students are expected to perform with the ensemble. The performers are Adam Hudlow, Aleisa Hudlow, Andrew Eden, Masahito Kuroda, Ken Green and Ivan Longoria. A number of alumni also perform with the group.
