Mrs. Tom H. Wells and Dr. Margaret Wheat Carter enjoy coffee and converse about their military experiences on Memorial Day at the Wells House.

Carol Wells, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday, was a lieutenant in the First Women’s Regiment of the U. S. Navy during World War II. Dr. Carter served as assistant surgeon in the U. S. Public Health Service during the Vietnam War. Both were recently honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution along with the late Margaret Harling, an army nurse.

The DAR donated a metal bench inscribed with the names of the three women located in Veterans Park by the Old Courthouse in Natchitoches.
