The Parish Council approved hiring Bobby Hughes as the public works director at its meeting Monday. His annual salary will be $65,000.
Hughes has 23 years experience in public service, primarily in road construction and management. He worked 19 years with the Fort Bend County Road and Bridge Department in Richmond, Texas where he was in construction of paved and gravel roads and operated heavy equipment.
He became the executive assistant to the road commissioner where he was responsible for a $16 million road budget for capital improvement projects, supervising administrative staff and service centers and various other duties. For the last nearly four years, he has been the street superintendent overseeing public works, animal control and mosquito control in Many.
He is responsible for planning and supervision of the street department, work schedules, preparing budgets and other tasks. Hughes must give notice at his current job so there is no definite time for when he will begin. Interim Earl Townsend will remain for a short period of transition.
