Mississippi softball standout with local ties signs with NSU

Softball standout Nicole Skerlong has signed with NSU after capturing the Mississippi Association of Junior Community and Junior Colleges Player of the Year as a freshman at Hinds Community College. The shortstop led the Lady Eagles in nearly every offensive category. She had a batting average of .496 with 53 RBIs, 56 runs scored and seven home runs. Skerlong compiled a whopping .921 slugging percentage with a .576 on-base percentage to supplement strong defensive skills.

She will have three seasons of eligibility. Skerlong was selected as the 2018 MACJC Player of the Year, First Team All-State and All-Region XXIII. She was also named Third Team All-American , 2018 Division II Softball All-America team.

Skerlong was a four-time All District player.  The Eros native starred at Ouachita High in Monroe, helping the Lady Lions to a Class 5A state title in 2014 and a championship appearance in 2017. Ouachita also advanced to the state semifinals in 2016.

Skerlong is the grand daughter of Carroll and Shasta Daniels of Marthaville. Her parents are Carolyn and Ray Skerlong.
