On Saturday, July 14, Park staff at Mansfield State Historic Site will offer a look at Union naval warships employed during the Red River Campaign, the Union’s failed attempt to capture Shreveport, in the spring of 1864, Saturday, July 14 beginning at 2 p.m.
Through the use of slides and images, guests will learn about the capabilities and specifications of these 19th century vessels and compare them with naval ships of today. How these warships were used during the campaign and their fate afterward will also be discussed.
