The Natchitoches Parish Library will host a presentation on Louisiana hummingbirds Tuesday, July 17 at 6 p.m., presented by local bird expert John Dillon.
The presentation will focus on hummingbird identification, ecology and migration, as well as the best plants in the area for gardens for hummingbirds, before the peak of their migration in August and September. Dillon, of Athens in Claiborne Parish, is a graduate of the Scholars’ College at NSU of 1997 and finished his masters at LSU in 1999 in philosophy. He has taught honors American and British literature at Minden High School for 12 years.
He is a veteran birder, gives tours for the Louisiana Ornithological Society and serves on the Louisiana Bird Records Committee, which oversees the acceptance of rare bird records in the state.
