A lightning strike during Tuesday’s thunderstorms ignited a fire in the heart of the Kisatchie Wildlife area. Kisatchie District Ranger at Bellwood, Michael Dawson, said the fire is under control. As of Thursday morning, approximately 9 acres were involved in the center of the wilderness area. “We have 15 Kisatchie fire crew members on site with support from the LDAF. Since it is in the wilderness area, it is hand line only,” Dawson said. “Machinery is on standby if needed, but we expect to make headway today.”
Dawson said there were no reports of smoke on the roadways.
In the interest of public safety, the wilderness area, Long Leaf Vista and all trails in those areas are closed.
