A Winnfield woman, Nettie Adams, 31, has been arrested in Winn Parish for allegedly going to businesses selling fake raffle tickets. She was also wanted in Rapides Parish. According to Rapides Parish authorities, Adams reportedly solicited a number of businesses and acquired money, telling people her daughter was undergoing cancer treatments out of state.
The Rapides Parish Sherriff’s Office was notified when she was arrested and booked in the Winn Parish Jail. She is charged with one count of fraud and driving without a license in Winn Parish. A Winnfield resident and victim of her scam, notified the Sheriffs’ Office of her whereabouts.
Authorities learned she was also allegedly claiming she was raising money for Raeleigh Pickering, a 4-year-old girl diagnosed with leukemia. The Winn Parish group, Raleigh’s Summer Dream Dance Benefit, has been raising money for the Pickering family for some time. The group states this situation has affected their efforts to raise support.
Adams was booked into the Rapides Parish Jail charged with 18 counts of theft of $750 or more.
