The Natchitoches Young Professionals (NYP) will host their Lunch with Leaders event Thursday, Aug. 9 from noon-1 p.m. at Lasyone’s Meat Pie Restaurant. The speaker will be Dr. Chris Maggio, NSU president, and he will discuss what’s coming up at the university.

Dean Dermatology and Skin Therapy will host Spot Me Skin Cancer Screening Friday, Aug. 10 from 3-5 p.m. at the Christus Cabrini Hospital outpatient center. Local dermatologists from CenLa will assist with the screening.

The Natchitoches Community Improvement Foundation Inc. will host a grant-writing seminar Saturday, Aug. 11 at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church on Amulet Street. Any non-profit organization interested in applying for a grant is encouraged to attend. There will be detailed instructions on what documents are required and the acceptable structure of grant proposals.

The third annual Campti community Back 2 School Block Party will be Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Campti Recreation Complex, formerly the Field of Dreams. Uncle UG will bring the music with a message. There will be food, waterslides and face painting by the library.

The 2018 Marthaville Good Ole Days Pageant will be Saturday, Aug. 11 at 5 p.m. at the Marthaville Elementary and Junior High School. See the 2018 Marthaville Good Ole Days Pageant Facebook Page for divisions, age groups, entry fees and award information. The deadline is Monday, Aug. 6.

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame will host A Kid’s Afternoon of Art Saturday, Aug. 11 from 1-3 p.m. Lucretia Glorioso will guide children ages 8-13 through the process of painting their 11×14 canvas to take home. The Natchitoches Humane Society will have a Bath and Nail Clip Event Saturday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Tractor Supply. Baths for dogs under 60 pounds are $10 and baths for dogs over 60 pounds are $15. Nail clipping is $10. There is a $5 discount if you do a bath and nail clipping.

The MLK Health Center and Pharmacy of Shreveport and Open Door Fellowship of Coushatta will offer a free health screening fair Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Open Door. This includes mammograms, prostate screening, blood pressure screening, diabetes screening, cholesterol screening and nutritional information. Les Amies will host the annual Pack the Bus school supply drive at Walmart Saturday, Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. They will collect school, teacher, classroom and cleaning supplies, which will be donated to all Natchitoches Parish Schools.

The Northwestern Louisiana Cancer Center hosts breast cancer support group meetings, called Bosom Buddies Support Group, the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The Bosom Buddies breast cancer support group meetings are for all breast cancer survivors, fighters and caregivers. The NLCC is located at 221 Medical Drive in Natchitoches.

Natchitoches Hope for Paws (NHFP) hosts Chili’s Give Back Night every third Thursday of the month from 4-10 p.m. Tell your server you’re there to support NHFP and Chili’s will donate 15 percent of the total of your bill to NHFP.
