Double murder investigation continues

The investigation into the shooting deaths of two Natchitoches men early Wednesday morning on Michelle Drive in Payne Subdivision off La. Hwy 6 East in the Grand Ecore area near Natchitoches is continuing according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr.

Detectives continue to process physical evidence for crime lab analysis, review other forensic evidence and have been interviewing residents and possible witnesses in the Payne area. Sheriff Jones asks anyone with information to help bring closure to this case of senseless murder.

On Wednesday, Aug. 8 at approximately 1:42 a.m., NPSO deputies responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the 200 block of Michelle Drive. Patrol deputies responded. Shortly after arriving, deputies found a 2000 Nissan passenger car in the ditch occupied by Cordarious Cortez Smith and Rodney D. Richards, both 24 of Natchitoches, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene by the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office. Detectives are awaiting preliminary autopsy reports from the forensic pathologists office on the cause of death.
