Les Amies will host the annual Pack the Bus school supply drive at Walmart Saturday, Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. They will collect school, teacher, classroom and cleaning supplies, which will be donated to all Natchitoches Parish Schools.

The Cane River Zydeco Festival and Motorcycle Poker Run will be Aug. 31 – Sept. 1 on the downtown riverbank. There will be Zydeco dance contest, entertainment, vendors and more. Registration opens at 6 p.m. that Friday. For more information, contact Melvin Holmes at 332-7455.

The 29th Goldonna-Saline Creek Festival will be Saturday, Sept. 1. There will be activities for adults and children alike. The parade starts at 10 a.m. with several events afterwards.

A fundraiser account to help with expenses for Dee Woods, who is fighting a battle against cancer, has been made. The account has been set up at American Bank and Trust in Coushatta. Funds raised for a gun raffle for a Remington 870 12 gauge will go towards the fundraiser. Tickets are $2. Call 538-7807 or 754-8533 for tickets. A bake sale will also be hosted at the Rivertown Market Saturday, Aug. 18.

The Austin Baroque Orchestra will kick of their eighth concert season Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Magale Recital Hall with a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the founding of New Orleans. They will present choral music, orchestral selections, and operatic excerpts from seventeenth- and eighteenth-century France and Louisiana, including works by Jean-Baptiste Lully, Jean Philippe Rameau, Michel-Richard de Lalande, and Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville.

If your child attends Natchitoches Junior High or L.P. Vaughn Elementary School, you may apply for a free, bi-monthly school food pantry program. The Natchitoches Junior High School Food Pantry Program offers fresh fruits, vegetables and non-perishable food items from The Food Bank of Central Louisiana.

Complete an application with required documents and bring to the pantry site during distribution, which is in NJHS Jag Room F106. Food distribution is the second and fourth Friday from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

The Northwestern Louisiana Cancer Center hosts breast cancer support group meetings, called Bosom Buddies Support Group, the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The Bosom Buddies breast cancer support group meetings are for all breast cancer survivors, fighters and caregivers. The NLCC is located at 221 Medical Drive in Natchitoches.

Kiwanis hosts Give Back Night the first Thursday of the month at Chili’s starting at 4 p.m. Mention Kiwanis to your server and Chili’s will donate 15 percent of the event day sales.

Natchitoches Hope for Paws (NHFP) hosts Chili’s Give Back Night every third Thursday of the month from 4-10 p.m. Tell your server you’re there to support NHFP and Chili’s will donate 15 percent of the total of your bill to NHFP.
