John Lawrence (Larry) Hunt, formerly of Natchitoches, passed away Aug. 1, 2018 at his home in Oakland, Calif.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be Saturday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. at San Gabriel Presbyterian Church of Georgetown, Texas. His urn will be placed in the columbarium at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.

Larry was born July 14, 1962 in McAllen, Texas, the youngest of four brothers.

Larry attended public schools in Stephenville, Texas, Norman, Okla.; Fayette, Mo., and Natchitoches. He graduated from Natchitoches Central High School and entered Northwestern State University in 1980. He played flute in the band at the high school as well as at the university. He performed in music theater at Northwestern State and was a cast member for several seasons of the Louisiana Outdoor Drama Association. Larry attended the First Presbyterian Church of Natchitoches.

Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1984 and served in the Intelligence Branch in San Francisco and in Hawaii. His specialty was Korean language. Larry was also trained in small arms weaponry and combat techniques for insurgency. He attained the rank of sergeant.

After honorable discharge in 1988, Larry worked as computer engineer in California and New York. Larry medically retired in 2001 and remained in the California Bay Area for continuous care of Parkinson’s Disease at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Jane Pratt of Abilene, Texas; his father, Dr. William A. Hunt of Georgetown, Texas; and two brothers: Dr. James W. Hunt of Abilene, Texas and Richard C. Hunt of Puebla, Mexico. Larry is preceded in death by his brother, Robert A. Hunt.
