Rehabilitation work to begin on MLK Jr. Drive today (Oct. 1)

Mayor Lee Posey announces that rehabilitation work will begin today on the portion of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive between Amulet and Texas Streets.

Black line denotes the area affected.

This work, consisting of cold-planing, base reconstruction and asphalt overlay, is part of the 2017-18 Phase 2 Street Rehabilitation Program. Contract was awarded to Regional Construction, LLC, in August.

During the cold-planing and asphalt overlay phases of the work, two-way, one-lane traffic will be maintained.  However, during the base reconstruction phase of the work, two-block segments of MLK Drive will be closed to through traffic.  During these times, motorists will detour around the work site utilizing alternate routes.

It is anticipated that this work will be completed within approximately five calendar days, weather permitting.
