Here are some upcoming events for October at the Natchitoches Parish Library:
Oct. 7-13- For Teen Read Week, teens getting caught reading in the library will receive a prize.
Oct. 9- Fall Painting for Adults with Suzie Parker is from 6-7 p.m. Create a work of art on canvas through the guidance of local artist, Suzie Parker. Sign up required. Adults only.
Oct. 11- Children will have a Night Story Time from 6-7 p.m. on the first floor of the NPL. Wear PJs, bring a stuffed animal and cookies and milk will be provided.
Oct. 13- Astronomy Illumination with Joey Matheson is from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. See an array of telescopes with which to view the night sky and hear all about what’s going on in the universe this time of year. Open to all.
Oct. 15- Discover Tahiti with Orama Fauura from 6-7 p.m. Learn all about the French Polynesian island of Tahiti from a native Tahitian. Includes dance, photos and other treats from the Tahitian culture. No sign up. For Adults.
Oct. 19- This year’s Creature Feature is from 7-9 p.m. This is an outdoor movie event at City Park featuring the 1995 family-friendly classic “Casper,” starring Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman. “Casper” is the story of a paranormal expert and his daughter, who bunk in an abandoned house populated by three mischievous ghosts and one friendly one. Rated PG for mild language and thematic elements. Bring your own chair or blanket. Popcorn and punch provided.
Oct. 20- The science club with Ashwini Weber will study cell biology from 3-4 p.m. This is for ages 7-10. Sign up at the Children’s desk.
Oct. 22- The teen event, Don’t Fear the Food Factor Games, is from 2-4 p.m. Teens will compete in the game that challenges them to try foods they may not be so familiar with. Open minds and mouths and win prizes and food. Hosted by the NPL and the Natchitoches Mobile Market.
Oct. 23- A Halloween Cupcake Decorating Party will be from 6-7 p.m. in the Children’s Computer Lab.
Oct. 25- Family Pumpkin Carving will from 6-8 p.m. on the first floor of the NPL. Pumpkins can be cute or creepy! Limited sign up space, sign up required.
Oct. 27- Birding basics with John Dillon is from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Birder and naturalist John Dillon will introduce the basics of birding: technique, field guides, binoculars, habitat, dos and don’ts while birding, etc. The following Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 a.m., participants will meet up to go birding.
