A service to honor the life of Mrs. Nellie McQueen will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Bowlin officiating.  Burial will follow at Coldwater Baptist Church Cemetery in Hagewood.  The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Nellie, 86, and a resident of Bellwood passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, with her family by her side.  She was born Aug. 4, 1932, to Walter Long and Alice Hildebrand Long.

She was the last sibling of a family that included five sisters and four brothers.  She retired after 25 years of service as a postmaster and was a dedicated and hard worker her entire life.  She enjoyed being a member of Bellwood Baptist Church for over 35 years where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and fellowship with her church family.  Caring for her family was always her top priority; she deeply loved all of them but her grandsons held a special place in her heart.  She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, caring mother and loving grandmother.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Leon McQueen; sons, Steve McQueen and wife Cindy and Michael McQueen and wife Noelle.  She was blessed with two grandsons, Britton and Ragan McQueen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Britton McQueen, Ragan McQueen, Larry DeBlieux, Gary DeBlieux, Paul McQueen and Larry Rhodes.

Memorial donations in Nellie’s name may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, 7200 Desiard St., Monroe, LA 71203 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
