The Lady Gators were on fire Thursday night dominating the game against the Lady Redskins during the Lakeview Jamboree from start to finish. Picking up action in the first half the Lady Gators took control early after winning the opening tip-off. Lakeview’s Jada Williams navigated her way through traffic to the basket scoring the first two-points of the game. Ringgold inbounded the ball, but turned it over before crossing half court. Williams intercepted a pass and had no problem sinking a two-point lay-up.
The next possession for the Lady Redskins did not fare much better. After inbounding the ball, it slipped though a teammate’s hands. Lakeview’s ball. Averi Slaughter took the inbound pass to the basket for 2. The Lady Redskins called a timeout to regroup but it did not stop the onslaught of Lakeview’s smothering defense. Williams forced another turnover and took the ball to the basket for four unanswered baskets. The Lady Gators went on to score 10 more points, five from Zenobia Poydras.
The momentum the Lady Gators built crushed the confidence of the Lady Redskins forcing them to take another timeout to address their play. This time the motivational speech worked as Ringgold’s Madison Brown hit an 8-foot jumper to put the Lady Redskins on the scoreboard. Lakeview offense went on a tear again scoring 5 unanswered points. Gators up 23-2 with 21 seconds left in the first half.
The Lady Redskins Lacy Adams drove the lane but was fouled. She went 1of 2 taking the score to 23-3 at the half. During the second half of the game, both coaches emptied their benches giving their players valuable playing time and experience. The Lady Gators stretched their lead scoring 11 while only allowing the Lady Redskins to score two. Final score, 34-5.
